On 3 November 1957, a small stray from Moscow was placed inside a spacecraft that would change history. They called her Laika. She never understood the name or the reason people kept lifting her into cold metal rooms. She only knew the hands that fed her, the quiet voices that tried to keep her calm, and the way everyone around her watched her heart through the machines she could not understand. In the weeks before launch they taught her to sit in tiny spaces. They stroked her head when she grew nervous. They whispered that she was brave, even though she had no idea she had been chosen for a journey no animal had ever taken before. When the rocket lifted away from Earth the world she knew fell beneath her. The noise shook her body and her heartbeat raced until suddenly the capsule became still. Through a small window she saw the curve of Earth glowing a blue she had never seen in her life. Laika did not survive long. The capsule overheated within hours and years later the engineers admitted the truth. Sputnik 2 remained in orbit for five months before burning up in April 1958. Nothing returned to Earth. What remained was the story of a dog who never asked to be part of history but became one of the first lives to leave the planet. People remember her because she mattered. A small dog who trusted humans completely and helped open the path to space. 👁️ Follow @thewhispersofhistory for more real stories they never taught you. #adoptdontshop #dog #sad #space #fyp
